About the Artist
Azalia Suhaimi is a Malaysian illustrator, poet, and multimedia artist, whose visual and written work explores the intricate layers of womanhood, motherhood, and self-compassion. Her work is shaped by her multidisciplinary education and passion for various forms of artistic expression.
Azalia studied accounting but followed her artistic instincts and pursued photography and, later, a diploma in English literature. A self-taught artist, Azalia honed her skills in digital illustration and storytelling through online courses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Azalia started combining her illustrations with poetry and shared her work widely across social media. Her work gained prominence through her "Dear Mama" art series, which blends heartfelt illustrations with poetic affirmations that encourage self-compassion among mothers.
While her early work centred on motherhood, her current practice has expanded to explore broader themes of womanhood, identity, and creative self-expression.
Now based in the United Kingdom, Azalia is pursuing a Master’s degree in Contemporary Creative Writing at the Northeastern University London. Her work has been featured in numerous publications and digital platforms, and she continues to collaborate on projects that reflect her mission of spreading love and self-compassion through art.
