The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings marked the culmination of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025. Under the theme, "Inclusivity and Sustainability," Malaysia prioritised strengthening ASEAN Centrality, enhancing ASEAN intra-trade and investment, and embedding inclusivity and sustainability in regional Community- building efforts. The summit witnessed a historic milestone as ASEAN Leaders formally signed the accession instrument to welcome Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s 11th Member State. During the plenary session, the ASEAN Leaders discussed pressing regional challenges and signed, adopted, and noted over 40 outcome documents. The summit also featured meetings with ASEAN’s Dialogue and External Partners. The summit concluded with Malaysia offi cially handing over the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines.
Chairman’s Statement of the 47th ASEAN Summit
1. We, the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 26 October 2025 for the 47th ASEAN Summit, under the Chairmanship of Malaysia. The Summit was chaired by the Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Chair of ASEAN, and convened in accordance with the ASEAN Charter.
2. We reaffimed our support for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” reflecting our shared commitment to regional peace, security, stability, and prosperity through an inclusive, forward- looking, and sustainable regional framework. We further reaffirmed the need to prioritise efforts towards narrowing development gaps and reducing inequalities, improving living standards, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. As the 47th ASEAN Related Summits drew to a close, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, witnessed the handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines during the Closing Ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits held on 28 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Philippines will commence its Chairship of ASEAN on 1st January 2026, under the theme ” Navigating Our Future, Together.”

Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, signed the ASEAN-FIFA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FIFA President, Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In a signing ceremony, ASEAN and FIFA renewed their partnership for the new ASEAN-FIFA MoU to promote football as a platform for education, inclusion, gender equality, and sustainable development. The five-year partnership reaffirms both organisations’ shared commitment to advancing sports integrity, youth empowerment, and contributing to an inclusive and sustainable ASEAN Community.
